Today’s reading is about the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves have you?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”  And commanding the crowd to sit down on the ground, he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.  And they all ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over. Matthew 15:34-37

In the Magnificat there is a meditation on this passage from Heather King, where she says “Note that Christ doesn’t make food materialize out of thin air: as always, he invites our contribution, however tiny it might be.

Once again, this morning I am called to participate. To contribute.  However,  Heather King’s meditation, also called to mind a message to myself I have pinned to the wall of my office: “Be his hands and feet on earth”.  Looking it up, I just learned it was from Theresa of Avila, and it is part of an amazing poem.

Christ Has No Body

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

         – Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)

God invites our contribution. However tiny it may be.

Great reminder on how we fit into our own Faith.  And how we take part in the Life and Hope before us.
